Bitter Wells

More about the book

Regina Scheer looks back on the impressive life of Herta Gordon-Walcher. The Jewish woman was Clara Zetkin's secretary in the 1920s. Together with her husband, she joins the socialists and fights for a fairer world. Surrounded by resistance figures such as Rosa Luxemburg, Wilhelm Pieck, Bertolt Brecht and Willy Brandt, she experienced the rise of National Socialism at first hand. Flight and exile followed. Regina Scheer spoke with Hertha Walcher for twenty years; she empathically tells of her life of privation for a great idea and in doing so makes the female part of the history of the left movement visible.
