The history magazine DAMALS announced the winners of its annual book contest: Dan Diner's "Another War. Jewish Palestine and the Second World War 1935-1942" was chosen by a distinguished jury of renowned scholars and media representatives as Historical Book of the Year 2021.
"There are many books about the Second World War and the Holocaust, but the excellent study by the German-Israeli historian Dan Diner brings something new: it does not focus on Hitler's Germany, the USA and Europe, but on Jewish Palestine. This brings other locations, perspectives and processes into view, such as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict with Great Britain, conditions in India or Italy's colonial expansion into Ethiopia. The unusual perspective also sheds new light on Hitler's war of extermination." - so the statement of the DAMALS editors.
